I'm doing a personal crate dig. My father died in 2007, and my mom finally let me have all of his 45s — 271 in all — with tons of 1950s artists in there. There's lots of dreck; sadly, his music taste did not keep up with the times. But those early pieces are classics.
Great stuff. Original Little Richard singles on Specialty, a few Chuck Berry 45s on Chess, the original Sun single of Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” some early Elvis (although the Sun singles he had were stolen in college … grrr.) And that’s just the cream at the top.
As much as I'm annoyed by the dirt done to John Fogerty by Fantasy, those early pressings are fine slabs of wax indeed!
